The department of Otolaryngology is seeking a part-time Audiologist to assist with clinical testing, administrative functions, and Audiology specific duties. The Audiologist will examine, diagnose and provide clinical services for patients related to auditory dysfunction, including those of a highly complex and unusual nature.

*The department is seeking to hire at either an Audiologist I or Audiologist II level based on the qualifications of the successful candidate.*
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinate diagnostic information with specialists from other professions.

Plan, direct, conduct or participate in programs including counseling, guidance and clinical work regarding appropriate modes of patient communication.

Initiate and maintain functional and comprehensive patient records.

Counsel patients, families and others concerning the management of the patient's hearing disorder and associated speech and/or language problems, including the social and psychological problems associated with the hearing disorder.

Assist in the instruction of graduate students in speech pathology and audiology.

Participate in clinical research trials to develop diagnostic and remedial techniques and procedures for communication disorders and other research pertaining to communication processes.

Perform other tasks as assigned

Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the public.

Establish and maintain standards of collaborative interaction among peers and employees that is characterized by respect, honesty and service; assure that all unit members are held to similar standards and ethics; constructively manages conflict.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Supervision is received from a Director, Assistant Director or other designated official.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Functional supervision is exercised over support staff. Supervise graduate students in Audiology.

Audiologist I Qualifications:

A Master's degree in Audiology is required.

Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology issued by the American Boards of Examiners in Speech Pathology and Audiology of the American Speech and

Hearing Association or qualifications equivalent to such certification is required.

An individual is considered to possess such equivalent qualifications if s/he meets the academic, practicum and supervised experience requirements for certification

and has achieved an acceptable score on the National Examination in Audiology.

An Audiology license from the State of Iowa or the ability to acquire one is required.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

Some (6 months - 1 year) experience in Audiology is desirable.

Audiologist II Qualifications:

A Master's degree in Audiology is required.

Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology issued by the American Boards of Examiners in Speech Pathology and Audiology of the American Speech and Hearing Association or qualifications equivalent to such certification is required. An individual is considered to possess such equivalent qualifications if s/he meets the academic, practicum and supervised experience requirements for certification and has achieved an acceptable score on the National Examination in Audiology.

Considerable (3-5 years) directly related experience in Audiology is required.

An Audiology license from the State of Iowa or the ability to acquire one is required.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

Successful candidates will be subject to a criminal background check and education/credential verification. Up to 5 professional references will be requested at a later step in the recruitment process.

  • The department intends to hire for one position from either Audiologist II, Pay Grade 9, or Audiologist I, Pay Grade 7, based on the qualifications of the successful candidate.
