Description Position Title: Graduate Assistant - Center for Community Development and Social JusticeSupervisor's Title & Department: Director of the Center for Community Development and Social JusticeSession: Academic, This is a one-year placement with an opportunity for re-application and hire.Hourly Rate & Leadership Classification: $17.00Average hours per week: Up to 20 hours per week Job Purpose: The Graduate Assistant for the Center for Community Development and Social Justice (CCDSJ) is an energetic, student-centered, social justice-minded, and community-focused graduate student who will work with the Director of the CCDSJ in furthering its mission through program planning and administration, administrative and strategic planning support, interaction with campus and community stakeholders, and development of a social media presence for the Center. Successful candidates will be able to work independently and collaboratively, possess a passion for social justice and reasonable knowledge of the foundations of community-engaged learning (such as service-learning courses) and research (such as community-based participatory research). Responsibilities: Under the supervision, direction, and mentorship of the CCDSJ Director, the CCDSJ GA will:
    Plan and implement programming initiatives for the CCDSJ - 20%Coordinate the development of a plan to establish a social media/digital presence for the CCDSJ; implement the plan - 20% Assist with the promotion, outreach, and implementation of the communication strategy for the CCDSJ - 10% Assist with development and implementation of training, education, advocacy, and professional development initiatives - 10%Engage in activities to researching grant opportunities, writing grant proposals, and grant reporting - 10%Work collaboratively with other campus offices and community stakeholders; communicate effectively and professionally with all stakeholders; participate in CCDSJ activities and events, including CCDSJ Advisory Board meetings - 10%Research Greater Lynchburg Area social justice events and initiatives - Meet regularly with the Director of the CCDSJ - 10%Assist with the coordination, execution, and assessment of CCDSJ initiatives - 5%Assist with the coordination, execution, and assessment of CCDSJ initiatives - 5%Complete other duties as assigned or required - 5%
Qualifications
    A desire to work with diverse populations from a perspective of inclusivity, empathy, and respect for othersPassion for social justiceReasonable knowledge of the foundations of community-engaged learning (such as service-learning courses) and research (such as community-based participatory research)Excellent interpersonal skillsAbility to tailor communication to target audience(s)Excellent organization and time-managementDemonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneouslyBachelor's degree from an accredited institutionAbility to travel (most often independently) into the Lynchburg community (off-campus) to execute outreach and engagement portions of position responsibilities
Preferred Experiences/Qualifications:
    Experience with community-engagement, civic-engagement, service-learning, and/or community-based research initiatives and projects
    Experience promoting events and with social media (especially Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, and emerging platforms)Experience facilitating conversation among diverse stakeholders, including experience working with youth and/or young adult stakeholders around social justice issuesExperience with evaluation, assessment, grant writing, and/or researchExperience with basic office equipment and with Google Apps such as Docs, Sheets, Slides, Sites, and Forms
