Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 333-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus including at a network of Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary

The Client Service Assistant performs a variety of clerical duties supportive to the assigned clinic or program.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Proactively contributes to Eskenazi Health mission: Advocate, Care, Teach and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County. Models Eskenazi Health values
  • Performs a variety of clerical duties supportive to the assigned clinic or program
  • Greets clients and visitors
  • Schedules clients
  • Answers the phone and directs calls or takes messages
  • Monitors the waiting area and notifies staff according to proper procedures
  • Prepares and maintains client records (charts)
  • Creates provider schedules in scheduling system

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Minimum of three months experience in a hospital or health care setting with public contact

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Good telephone manners with ability to handle clients under pressure
  • Uses age appropriate communication skills
  • Ability to type, accuracy more important than speed
  • Attention to detail
  • Alpha/numeric filing
  • Knowledge and understanding of billing/account processes
  • Knowledge of standard office equipment and computer console (CRT)
  • Basic knowledge of medical/psychiatric terminology
  • Knowledge of hospital and clinic procedures
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure of client volume
  • Ability to be flexible to changing work duties and locations
  • Ability to follow verbal/written instructions

Must meet the following Basic Competencies if Applicable:
  • CPI
  • Confidentiality
  • RCIS
  • Functional Assessment (HAP)
  • Annual Education
  • PHS Scheduling System
