JOB SUMMARY

The Clinical Pharmacy Manager leads a team of clinical pharmacist specialists and other staff in providing safe and effective clinical pharmacy services, policies, and workflow. The Clinical Manager leverages clinical expertise in providing vision and identifying opportunities to effectively deliver safe and effective clinical pharmacy programs providing excellent outcomes to patients and high engagement with internal and external teams. Areas of responsibility include: clinical pharmacist specialist services, Pharmacy & Therapeutics, Investigational Drug Services, medication safety, staff development and education, and clerkship students and residents training.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

LEADERSHIP

1. Responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of all clinical pharmacy programs, protocols, guidelines, policies, and interventions to enhance quality and safety while optimizing fiscal stewardship.

2. Leads a team of clinical pharmacist specialists to promote the highest quality of clinical pharmacy services. Interviews, selects, onboards, manages, delegates, and completes performance evaluations and improvement plans for all direct reports.

3. Serves as the clinical pharmacy leader for Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee activities including drug selection, new drug analysis, protocol, guideline, and policy development and formulary drug utilization monitoring.

4. Provides direction and develops solutions to opportunities and problems. Collaborates and communicates actions with leaders, staff, and stakeholders across the hospital and health system.

QUALITY AND INNOVATION

1. Monitors medication utilization effectively intervening when necessary to ensure compliance with established policies. Implements recommendations that improve existing services and identifies new services needed to enhance safety and services.

2. Provides medication safety leadership through routine analysis of medication related events recommending interventions to improve medication safety and mitigate risk.

3. Leads Investigational Drug Service activities including oversight of studies and compliance.

4. Manages drug shortages through clinical alternative recommendations and contingency planning. Communicates plans organization wide.

5. Directs all clinical activity related to informatics and systems implementations and updates assuring medication safety.

6. Collects, analyzes, reports, and ongoingly monitors all metrics related to clinical pharmacy activity and services.

STAFF DEVELOPMENT / EDUCATION

1. Responsible for clinical pharmacy team activities relative to training, education, delegation, coaching, and assessment and attainment of productivity metrics.

2. Coordinates various consult services consistent with the organizational goals and pharmacy services.

Qualifications

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Pharmacy Doctorate Degree (Pharm.D.) or combination of relevant education & experience may be considered in lieu of Pharmacy Doctorate Degree

• ASHP-accredited PGY1 Residency

EXPERIENCE:

• Relevant Experience

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:

• PA Pharmacist License
