Position Summary
The Simulation Manager supports the delivery of Clinical Simulation Services (CSS) to the Nursing and Physician Assistant programs within the School of Health and Natural Sciences. The Simulation Manager also supports the acquisition and retention of nursing related clinical skills via direct instruction of students using the lab. This role additionally supports CSS daily operations through the preparation, maintenance, and organization of space, equipment, supplies, and inventory used in the Clinical Simulation Center (CSC). The Simulation Manager reports to the Director of Clinical Simulation Services.


Instructional Responsibilities (~25%)

  • Provides direct instruction of skills to students in Medical Surgical courses (non-specialty content) as indicated by the Master Skills Checklist.
  • Utilizes faculty approved checklists to provide skill instruction.
  • Provides skill instruction as frequently as directed by faculty in order to support skill retention and minimize skill decay.
  • In collaboration with nursing faculty, collects data to support the evaluation of the med surgical skill instructional program.
  • Collaborates and communicates with nursing faculty (clinical and theory) in an ongoing manner regarding individual student’s skill performance.
  • Other instructional duties as assigned.

  • Administrative Responsibilities (~75%)
  • Oversees and schedules the use of simulation space and equipment.
  • Manages inventory of supplies and equipment in collaboration with the CSS Director.
  • Prepares, programs, and operates simulation and audio-visual systems during events.
  • Performs setup and breakdown of simulators, task trainers, simulation rooms, and other equipment/props for lab events.
  • Maintains simulation software, hardware, and networks in collaboration with IT and vendors; troubleshooting when needed.
  • Supervises, schedules, and trains student workers to assist with lab needs in collaboration with the CSS Director.
  • Trains and supports faculty and approved users in the use of simulation equipment.
  • Performs equipment inspections as part of routine maintenance.
  • Develops and maintains reference materials for all equipment (specs, manuals).
  • Assists with data entry and maintenance of simulation program databases upon request.
  • Assists with CSC tours with internal and external groups as needed.
  • Other administrative duties as assigned.

  • Required Qualifications:

  • Must hold an active nursing license in the state of California.
  • Experience instructing nursing students in lab or clinical environments
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills; capable of taking direction from superiors, and working with students, faculty, staff, and other customers
  • Technical aptitude with the ability to identify and troubleshoot IT connection issues
  • Technical aptitude to quickly learn simulation programs
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Excel and Word programs
  • Ability to do the following frequently: sit, stand, walk, perform repetitive hand/wrist motions and forearm rotations.
  • Ability to do the following occasionally: reach overhead, twist, turn, push, pull, squat crawl/kneel, balance, lift, carry, and move up to fifty pounds.

  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • Experience working with AV equipment and mannequin-related software
  • Work experience in a simulated healthcare environment with mannequins, task trainers, and standardized patients
  • Work experience in varied lab conditions involving mechanical, electrical, and lifting exposures, and occasional exposure to human blood
  • Possesses Certified HealthCare Simulation Educator, or willing to obtain within 2-3 years.
