What we need:

Mohawk is looking for a Department Manager who can do more with Mohawk at our Foss facility in Rome, GA. Shift schedule is 6PM - 6AM Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and every other Saturday.

This position coordinates resources across one or more shifts to ensure smooth and efficient manufacturing operations while promoting a team environment and continuously improving all production methods while adhering to all safety procedures. The role will oversee the day-to-day operations of a group of employees and will be responsible for training and development of hourly employees, estimating personnel needs, assigning work, meeting completion dates, and interpreting and ensuring consistent application of organizational policies.

What you'll do:

  • Supervise the manufacturing functions across one or more shifts, which includes reviewing production orders or schedules to ensure the manufacturing of product(s) is completed and scheduled delivery dates are met.
  • Plan and review production operations, establishing priorities and sequences for manufacturing products.
  • Resolve operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent delays.
  • Schedule and assign work to meet production requirements. Utilize the appropriate personnel based on skill sets.
  • Evaluate, develop, and ensure appropriate training processes are completed when employees move to different jobs.
  • Coach and develop employees in, problem-solving, scheduling, equipment problems, training, etc.
  • Work with the safety committee by attending safety meetings, working on safety projects, supporting safety within their department(s), completing safety surveys, and performing safety training.
  • Support employees in the area of quality assurance. This includes ensuring quality requirements and procedures for the department and plant are understood and met within all departments this position supervises.
  • Resolve employee relation issues through effective remediation techniques. Utilize Human Resources and/or managers to assist in solving unresolved work-related problems.
  • Participate in the hiring process for hourly employees. Facilitate employee counseling and disciplinary actions, including recommendations for termination.
  • Maintain and adhere to the operational budget for departments supervised.
  • Maintain shift reports and records. Verify employee's time in KRONOS.
  • Work with Supervisors in other departments to coordinate activities.

What you have:

  • High School Diploma or GED (required) or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required skills and knowledge to perform the essential function of the job.
  • 5+ years of manufacturing job-specific experience within the functional area.
  • 3+ years in a lead or senior capacity

What you're good at:

  • Utilizing a PC and other department-specific databases, systems, and other hardware and software.
  • Troubleshooting equipment, preventative maintenance, and resolving other basic operating problems. Proven mechanical aptitude.
  • Utilizing a basic knowledge and understanding of HR policies, practices, and procedures as it relates to employee relations, hiring, terminations, benefits, compensation plans, and administration guidelines.
  • Basic math, with the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions and percentages.
  • Interacting with Senior Management and internal customers via excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication; communicating with others in an antagonistic situation using appropriate interpersonal styles and methods to reduce tension or conflict and maintain professionalism in accordance with corporate standards.
  • Challenging established practices and drawing relevant conclusions; gaining buy-in on new ideas; functioning in a high-pressure environment and exercising good judgment to resolve problems in the absence of formalized guidelines and procedures.
  • Human Resource management to effectively lead and direct a diverse work group; to achieve results through team efforts, and to motivate, persuade, and direct the activities of others.

What else?

  • Must be able to walk long distances, climb on machinery, and stand for long periods of time. Bending, crouching, and stooping may be required. Must also be able to work in non-climate-controlled facilities.
