Join Caterpillar Inc. as an Electrical Systems Engineer (internally know as a Design Engineer) and be a part of innovative design development while collaborating with a dynamic team. Evaluate and optimize production designs, direct tasks to supporting engineers, and ensure seamless functionality using CREO. Drive quality through technical reviews and validation plans, contributing to Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) and Cost Reduction efforts. What You Will Do:

  • Spreadhead the creation of innovative concepts and designs tailored to meet project objectives.
  • Assess the performance of existing production designs, pinpointing areas for enhancement and optimization.
  • Direct and allocate design tasks effectively among supporting engineers, ensuring cohesive collaboration.
  • Skillfully choose, position, and install electrical components, optimizing functionality.
  • Utilize CREO to seamlessly integrate and route wiring harnesses, ensuring efficient cable management.
  • Conduct thorough technical reviews to guarantee the reliability and resilience of designs.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive validation plans to validate design integrity.
  • Play a pivotal role in supporting Continuous Process Improvement (CPI), Assurance of Supply (AoS), and Cost Reduction initiatives.
  • Provide invaluable support to factory and product teams, resolving electrical-related issues promptly and effectively.
What You Have (Basic Qualifications):
  • Degree: Bachelor's degree in engineering (strong preference towards an electrical engineering degree)
  • Technical Excellence: Proficiency in electrical schematic development and electrical component integration demonstrates a strong foundation in technical skills essential for this role.
  • Effective Communication: Strong collaboration and communication skills, along with proficiency in Microsoft O365, facilitate clear interaction and efficient teamwork within cross-functional environments.
  • Analytical Thinking: The ability to troubleshoot technical problems and optimize designs requires sharp analytical thinking to identify and address complex issues effectively.
  • Design for Manufacturing: Experience in engineering and product testing, coupled with knowledge of design for manufacturing principles, ensures the development of practical and efficient solutions that enhance product quality and manufacturability.
Top Candidates Will Have :
  • Team Management: Project management or indirect leadership experience to delegate tasks to supporting engineers and coordinating efforts within the team is crucial for successful project execution and fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Proficient at troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques to quickly identify root causes and develop solutions to ensure high quality products.

  • Location: Peoria, IL with secondary location in Brooklyn Park, MN
  • Up to 10 percent travel is expected (international & domestic).
  • Domestic relocation is available for this position.
