Job Description

GPIseeks a full-time Entry-Level Highway Design Engineer for our growing Long Island Transportation Group. This group is based in our Babylon, NY, office. We are looking for individuals who are ready to work collectively with a multi-discipline team of engineers in a dynamic office environment on interesting and challenging projects. Our New York projects involve varying types of roadway, bridge, intersection, and trail designs. GPI understands our significant responsibility as engineers to provide safe, practical, and context-sensitive transportation solutions to the many communities and clients we serve. Responsibilities:

  • Knowledge of highway design and will be comfortable taking a lead role in the design and development of Plans, Specifications, and Estimates for transportation projects
  • Experience with the New State, Municipal clients is preferred
  • Ability to develop plans for preliminary and final horizontal and vertical alignments, cross-sections, grading, drainage design, and utility relocations
  • Understanding of construction as it relates to developing temporary traffic control plans and construction staging/stormwater plans and details is a plus

Qualifications:
  • Zero plus years of highway engineering experience. All levels of experience will be considered
  • BS in Civil Engineering required; focus in Transportation preferred
  • EIT required
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Bentley MicroStation experience is required

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Maintain a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration
  • Read, write, and understand plans and directions given in the English language
  • Basic computer skills with the ability to create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, create Outlook emails and utilize SharePoint and Microsoft Teams to communicate with other team members
  • Able to wear GPI required PPE, i.e., hard hats, safety vest, work boots, and/or safety glasses/goggles while working
