Position Summary:

This role will serve as the primary site contact for operational Information Technology (IT) needs for the R&D organization in the US. You will oversee and ensure smooth function of software applications that support research operations across multiple sites. This includes planning and executing projects, and maintaining roadmaps for the application lifecycles in alignment with business goals and priorities, validation of software to GxP standards, and ownership of related processes. The role includes the coordination and support of site level initiatives around IT infrastructure and technology systems, including network, server, storage, and laboratory equipment, as required. Your role would also include partnering with other IT and R&D groups to test and implement novel technology solutions to empower collaboration and research outcomes. The role will also be required to perform work in farm and laboratory settings where animals may be present.

You will partner with other IT professionals at different sites, coordinating their activities, and providing technical guidance. This role requires a strong understanding of IT principles, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels. The role is highly self-directed, and requires good organizational skills to prioritize work.

This role is pivotal to ensuring both R&D and IT operational excellence as the organization grows and technology evolves.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as system owner for software applications that support laboratory/office facilities and animal research operations, while driving and validating delivery of new solutions
  • Coordinate support from other IT resources to ensure the operations application portfolio meets current standards, and remain in line with security and technology requirements
  • Represent R&D in discussions with global IT and technology groups to ensure that initiatives are executed in way that minimizes impact on R&D operations
  • Provide support for technology solutions where no fixed support processes exist, ensuring that issues are addressed in a timely manner
  • Plan and execute technology projects, and assist in project management activities to ensure alignment with financial and schedule forecasts
  • Manage implementation of new technology solutions as a part of R&D operations and research teams in partnership with business and IT stakeholder groups

Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare, Veterinary Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
  • 4-5+ years of relevant experience
  • Ability to successfully pass an enhanced background screening pertaining to animal rights activism required

Technical Skills:
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to understand complex business processes and challenges
  • Excellent technical background and understanding of IT systems, applications, and infrastructure, specifically in the areas of support and implementation
  • Understanding of desktop platform, server platforms, and network infrastructure
  • Experience with the following is plus: Building management platforms, SmartSheet, PowerApps. Animal medical record and welfare platforms
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Project, or Project Web Access
  • Demonstrated understanding of Solution Delivery methodologies and a working knowledge of GxP platforms and validation
  • Solid verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with stakeholders at all levels of the organization and communicate technical information to non-technical teams; technical writing experience a plus
  • Strong ability to network among internal teams and external business contacts
  • A demonstrated ability to think critically and act decisively to deliver project outcomes and operational excellence
  • Self-directed - can work with little/no direction to provide solutions/decisions for issue resolution
  • Proven ability to manage and deliver on multiple ongoing projects and work streams, organizing work based on project timelines and defined priorities from stakeholder
  • Goal-oriented, strong desire to achieve and exceed expectations, consistently meets commitments

Physical Requirements/Travel:
  • Hybrid working environment, with a mix of on-site and remote work as needed
  • Comfortability working in areas where animals (companion animal or livestock) are present
  • Some travel required in support of sites across the US, < 15%
