Laboratory Tech Aide

PURPOSE OF YOUR JOB DESCRIPTION:
The primary purpose of your job is to receive and prepare laboratory specimens for testing purposes. This will be done in accordance with current applicable Federal, State and local standards, guidelines and regulations, and established policies and procedures as may be directed by the Administrator, to assure that the highest degree of quality care and safety can be maintained.

DELEGATION OF AUTHORITY:
The Laboratory Manager will oversee your position and see that you are carrying out your duties of this position

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENT / DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clinical Duties:
Performs venipuncture blood collection procedure
Performs capillary blood collection procedure
Responds appropriately to all adverse patient reactions
Recognizes appropriate specimen types and volumes for all tests
Provide guidance and assistance to the phlebotomy team
Scan documents for archived databases and LMR
Responds to phone and fax requests for assistance
Registers NP(non-patient) patients accurately verifying all demographic information in the Meditech LIS
Maintain and order supplies for specimen collection, packaging, and shipping purposes, as well as office supplies for the lab.
Compiles Blood Bank Utilization Data for administrative review
Technical Duties:
Prepare, process, and package specimens for testing for referral to outside laboratories
Deliver specimens for testing to the testing area
Serve as liason between the specimen collection and testing areas of the laboratory.
Assumes other varied administrative and record keeping functions as needed.
Participates in all required QC/QI programs

Qualifications
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum: High School diploma with two years' experience with direct patient care and successful completion of an accredited phlebotomy program.
Preferred: CNA, LPN, RN and/or appropriate healthcare certification that requires formal schooling

EXPERIENCE:
Utilization of OSHA standards and Infection Control. Phlebotomy experience preferred.
Minimal of two years' experience in health care, preferably Laboratory/Hospital.
