Maintenance Technician IV

Duties and Responsibilities:
The purpose of this position is to perform the duties associated with the maintenance of facilities and equipment that support the production of Caterpillar Excavators. Maintenance Technicians report to the Maintenance Manager and will be assigned to areas within the business to meet customer and company demands.
Duties include but are not limited to performing maintenance, new equipment startups, and new installations on all HVAC (heating, ventilation, & air conditioning) equipment, liquid chillers,
and refrigeration units (refrigerators, freezers, and ice makers) throughout the plant.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb, ascend/descend or balance at heights that may require use of a ladders or lifts, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl in confined spaces and be able to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds. The employee is regularly required to use close vision and color vision. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. Work is typically performed in a factory environment that is occasionally very loud. In the factory environment, the employee may be exposed to hazardous materials and/or greasy or slippery factory floors.

All employees will be required to:

  • Perform expert level break-fix preventative maintenance. This includes but is not limited to: observing devices in operation to locate root causes of problems, dismantling devices to gain access to and remove defective parts, examining parts to detect imperfections, adjustment of functional parts of devices and control instruments, repair and/or replacement of defective parts, testing of devices to observe performance, and performing tests for electrical circuitry and mechanical systems.
  • Identify and source parts, supplies and repair items as necessary. Perform evaluations of alternatives to improve cost and / or reliability of equipment.
  • Independently perform maintenance as per industry standards.
  • Work with Planner / Scheduler to optimize preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Comply with 5S and housekeeping standards.
  • Lead, drive and participate in Continuous Improvement (CI) activities and process, results and cost savings using CI tools and methodology.
  • Provide assistance to lower-level technicians and leadership to project teams. Perform expert functions as a part of training and development.
  • Troubleshoot and analyze complex control systems to resolve in-depth software/ hardware and configuration problems.
  • Utilize predictive maintenance technologies to collect equipment performance data. Observe trends and makes recommendations.
  • Update records and reviews CMMS history and analyzes data.
  • Complete and conduct on-the-job training and technical self-study programs for career development.
  • Follow all safety related policies, rules, regulations, technical instructions and guidelines.
  • Maintain situational awareness and identify unsafe behaviors and conditions.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possession of an Associates degree, Tech School Certification, or a minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in Manufacturing Maintenance, particularly focusing on HVAC systems.
  • Mandatory HVAC EPA 608 Universal Certification.
  • Proficient in diagnosing and rectifying mechanical, electrical, and electronic malfunctions in HVAC systems, including cabinet air conditioners, heaters, liquid chillers, air dryers, refrigerators, freezers, and icemakers spread across the facility.
  • In-depth understanding and application of the refrigeration cycle concerning air conditioning and liquid chillers, along with expertise in refrigerant flow dynamics through various HVAC components.
  • Adherence to all EPA regulations pertaining to refrigerants, ensuring repairs comply with E.P.A. regulations, ANSI, ASHRAF, and NEC standards.
  • Competence in electronic and paper-based record-keeping of refrigerants, employing refrigerant compliance manager software for purchase, usage, and disposal in alignment with EPA regulations.
  • Proven troubleshooting skills encompassing mechanical, electrical, and electronic aspects of HVAC equipment and chillers, utilizing specialized tools like refrigerant gauge sets, recovery machines, vacuum pumps, ammeters, voltmeters, and meggers.
  • Proficient in safely handling voltages ranging from 4 to 20 milliamps up to 600 volts AC, along with expertise in troubleshooting, repairing, and replacing electric motors and compressors spanning from 24-volt

Additional Information

Shift: 1st Shift - Full Time

Hours: Monday - Friday, 7am - 3:30pm, may be required to work overtime

Starting pay rate: $32.70/hr

Work location: Victoria, TX
