Position Summary

The MSU Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL) is seeking an experienced Medical Technologist to perform high-volume diagnostic testing in the Endocrinology section of the VDL. The position is responsible for data entry of test results, documenting quality control, maintaining instruments, and answering client questions. This position will perform automated assays and radioimmunoassay's on animal samples (serum, plasma, urine) for diagnostic purposes. In addition, the individual will be responsible for assessment of assay performance through quality control, equipment and instrument maintenance, supply inventory, client interactions, and other related duties as required and assigned.

70% - Perform automated assays and radioimmunoassay's on animal samples (serum, plasma, urine) for diagnostic purposes. Data reduction and assessment of assay performance through quality control (QC)to ensure an accurate diagnosis. Operate, maintain, and calibrate instruments and equipment according to SOP standards. Maintain supply inventory.15% - Evaluate and release interpretations according to specified guidelines.15% - Interact with laboratory staff to resolve sample issues such as responding to client emails and answering phone calls regarding adding new tests, checking sample volume, and returning samples to clients. Other related duties as required and assigned. The VDL is a premier veterinary diagnostic laboratory for companion animals and horses as well as for livestock, laboratory, zoo, and wildlife species. Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Medical Technology and one year internship at an approved institution laboratory; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in hematology, chemistry, microbiology, immunohematology, urinalysis and coagulation; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and certification as a Medical Technologist or eligible as MT(ASCP) or CLS (NCA).

The ideal candidate for this role will be team oriented, collaborative by nature, customer service focused, an independent problem solver, and has a positive attitude, while always maintaining a professional demeanor. Good written and oral communication skills; ability to function as a team member within and across multiple levels of operations. Experience working in a laboratory environment requiring specific safety and security awareness training; One to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in high-volume diagnostics; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. ASCP Certification as a Medical Technologist is required.

Work Hours

Work hours are Monday through Friday between 7:30am and 5:30pm and include weekends and holidays on a rotational basis and are set in consultation with the supervisor.
