Basic Job Functions:

Metallurgist responsibilities include but are not limited to: developing practices to improve safety, quality, efficiency, yield, productivity, and costs; developing and optimizing operating procedures; minimizing variability in the production process; coordinating with suppliers to develop steel grades for specialized applications; providing training to operating & maintenance teammates; providing metallurgical assistance to technical service representatives and customers; and utilizing statistical process control tools to direct continuous improvement activities. Moderate travel is expected.

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy, Material Science Engineering, or similar technical field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of ISO9001, ISO/TS/IATF 16949, ISO 17025 Quality Management Systems
  • At least three years of experience in steel manufacturing and/or quality.
