Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:

In service of the University s mission, Digital and Lifelong Learning works with units to support the development of digital programs and pedagogies, as well as other flexible and/or nontraditional learning experiences. We offer a variety of credit and professional (i.e., non-credit) programs through our unit and also provide support for programs across the University. In support of these programs, we provide strategy, coordination, and services to meet program needs, including but not limited to marketing, recruitment, program/course design and development, conference and event planning and support, and student/participant support. Through our programs and services, Digital and Lifelong Learning extends access to education for participants across the state and beyond and enables campus units to expand, share, and collaborate through support for their own research and educational programs.

Position Summary:

This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

The Online Programs Manager position will join our newly established Projects and Partnership Management Team. This pivotal role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of an innovative online program creation roadmap, shaping it from inception to realization. As the Online Programs Manager, you will serve as the primary liaison between academic units driving the development of online programs and the Digital and Lifelong Learning (DLL) department. Leveraging your extensive program and project management expertise, you will advocate for the interests of academic unit program leads, ensuring seamless project implementation across all DLL service units.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Collaborate with academic units to understand their online program development needs and objectives.
2. Develop and refine the online program creation roadmap in alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
3. Act as the key liaison between academic units and DLL, facilitating effective communication and collaboration.
4. Represent the interests of academic unit program leads in discussions and decision-making processes within DLL.
5. Coordinate project implementation across all DLL service units, including instructional design, media production, marketing, student services, and conference services.
6. Monitor project progress and ensure adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
7. Provide regular updates and reports on project status to stakeholders and leadership teams.
8. Identify and address any challenges or obstacles that arise during the project lifecycle.
9. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify opportunities for program improvement and innovation.
10. Support academic units in launching and promoting online degree and certificate programs, ensuring successful outcomes.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities related to consulting or developing course content, curriculum, instructional technique/technology, distance education design, development or implementation, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution.

Strong analytical and organizational skills
Ability to think strategically and creatively. Ability to translate complex processes into actionable plans.
Ability to work independently and as part of a high-performing team.
Experience working and coordinating across multiple service units in a matrix organization.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

3+ years in a Program Director, Program Manager, Program Administrator, Product Manager role or similar.
Experience in higher education or related field, preferably in online learning management at the graduate level.
Expertise managing multiple projects and creatively handling resource and time conflicts. Track record of successful project management that delivers high-quality results.
Experience launching, managing, or overseeing online degree programs including aspects such as recruitment, marketing, admissions, curriculum, and student success.
Proficiency with project management tools such as Wrike.
Experience identifying, measuring, and analyzing relevant KPIs to enable data-informed decision making.
