PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Operations Manager works closely with the Area Manager in overseeing the aggregate production plant and mining operations, ensuring the operations are run in a safe manner, in compliance with environmental requirements and in the most efficient and effective way. This position is responsible for supervising operations at a quarry in southern WV under the direction of the Area Manager. Daily responsibilities will include, but not be limited to; ensuring a safe work environment, prioritizing and scheduling projects while maintaining daily control of operations and staying on budget, directing and supporting site foreman on planning and implementations of the operations plans, ensuring compliance with all facility permits and environmental regulations, ensuring continuous communication with manufacturing management about aggregate related issues and development, and developing and strengthening relationships with subcontractors, state & federal agencies, and colleagues. This position will report directly to the Area Manager.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have a working knowledge of all applicable regulations (including MSHA and OSHA) affecting crusher production, safety, environmental, state, federal, and company policies; ensure observance and compliance of such regulations.
  • Assist the Area Manager in planning, coordinating and supervising mining activities including workforce and equipment.
  • Responsible for assisting mine operation to meet or exceed budget.
  • Work with the Area Manager in establishing and monitoring production plan.
  • Work with site Superintendent, Area Manager and quality control personnel in scheduling materials testing and maintaining product specifications during production.
  • Willingness to perform administrative duties such as timecard review and approval, entering data into existing CRH systems, progress postings (daily quantities) and keep a field journal.
  • Work with Superintendent, Foremen and Area Manager in the day-to-day operations of aggregate production including crushing and washing.
  • Review and monitor production costs regularly to keep as efficient as possible and identify ways to increase production efficiency and lower costs.
  • Continuously maintain, assist, and develop plans of crushing and wash plants, detailing screen sizes, products and TPH for quarry sites and products.
  • Work with sales manager to coordinate production needs and schedule, as necessary.
  • Assist in maintaining site conditions, signing, fences, seeding, mulching, landscaping, access roads and other site needs.
  • Supervise and coordinate with blasting supervisor or outside blasting vendor, all drilling and blasting needs for all managed sites.
  • Ensure continuous communication with management (VP, General Manager, and Area Manager) about aggregate related issues and developments.
  • All other projects as assigned.
  • The willingness to travel to other locations throughout Appalachian Aggregates when needed, as well as the AMR region.
  • Extended hours with possible night and/or weekend work as well as overnights.
  • Understands the value of quality and ensures processes are in place to provide a quality product to our customers.
  • Maintain duties related to MSHA regulations, including accident investigation and reporting, safety meetings, training, etc.
  • Actively engages with the employees to reinforce safe behaviors.
  • Ensures that safety, compliance, and environmental requirements are followed.
  • Maintaining accurate cost and inventory control; calculating and analyzing productivity and material data.
  • Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.
  • Works closely and effectively with safety, environmental, quality and materials performance.
  • Properly follow all company policies and MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment.
  • Works with Area Manager to ensure company is a valued member of the community, including community out-reach programs.
  • Participates in the hiring of all new employees and termination of current employees with the recommendation and approval of the Area Manager.
  • Report any problems to your manager.
  • Properly follow all company policies and OSHA / MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment; and
  • Perform any other general duties as specified.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Engineering Degree (Mining or Civil) from a four-year accredited program required; and five years related mining experience.
  • Knowledge of surface mine functions, such as: Over burden removal, Blasting, Loading and Hauling, and crushing and screening (etc.)
  • Working knowledge of plant equipment and mechanical maintenance for the equipment.
  • Knowledge of all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations regarding safety and environmental issues.
  • Pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Pass a pre-employment "Fit for Work" physical.
  • Be able to provide valid documentation for the I-9 Immigration document.
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
  • Report to work at the designated start time.
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
  • Be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Be able to work overtime when required.
  • Maintain current driver's license that meets state requirements.
  • Have a Motor Vehicle Record that meets company standards.
  • Be willing to work outdoors in extreme temperatures, both hot and cold.
  • Strictly adhere to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Have the willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and / or MSHA.
  • Be at least age 18 years of age due to nature of working environment; and
  • Previous related experience in construction field is preferred.
