The Campus Rec Coordinator is responsible to provide and oversee effective operations for respective Campus Recreation administration, programs, and/or facilities during set work hours. The Coordinator will provide direction to part time and/or student workers by supervising tasks, monitoring performance, and ensuring adherence to policies and procedures. They are responsible for maintaining safety, reducing risk, and executing job specific functions.

The Outdoor Recreation Programming Coordinator (Trips) is responsible for overseeing all trips through Campus Recreation. This includes the planning, scheduling, monitoring, tracking, and often leading on and off-site trips. Additional tasks include assisting with major events at the Outdoor Recreation Facility as needed. This position is responsible for leading part time and student employees.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Primary point of contact with responsibility to perform the planning, promotion, execution, and evaluation of all Outdoor Recreation on and off-site trips, in house clinics/trainings, and academic classes.
  • Provide direct oversight of a team of part time and student employees. This includes hiring, training, developing, scheduling, and evaluating.
  • Assists facility management in the development and maintenance of safety and risk management policies and procedures for all aspects of Outdoor Recreation, with a specific focus on off-site trips and academics.
  • Frequently oversee and/or assist with off-site trips during evening, nights, or weekend hours.
  • Assist in the developing and facilitation of a staff training program to develop staff in areas relating to the Outdoor Rec industry.
  • Document, track, and report program statistics and objectives progress in the areas of program revenue, participation, and survey feedback.
  • Remain up to date on industry standards and performance benchmarks and ensure that outdoor programming remain effective and current.
  • Make purchases and recommendations for assets, supplies, or expenses relevant to Outdoor Recreation trips and events.
  • Document and report incidents and injuries.
  • Perform all other tasks assigned by the Director of Outdoor Recreation to aid and assist in the operation of all Campus Recreation facilities and programming.
  • Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU's mission.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • This position is responsible for 2 student managers and 5 student workers.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS Minimum Qualifications
  • Four-year college degree from an accredited university
  • 2+ years' experience working in the outdoor related industry
  • Current CPR/AED/First Aid certifications
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills, problem solving ability, and attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications
  • Wilderness First Aid Certifications, Swiftwater Rescue or paddle sport certifications
  • Leave No Trace training or certification
  • Earned or progress towards graduate level degree
  • Experience with leading outdoor trips in the wilderness setting
  • Experience with LU software such as Swiper, BuyLU, Aventri, Workday, 25Live, Webcheckout, etc.

  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well-articulated information.
  • Ability to understand, speak, and write English in order to convey messages and correspond in an articulate and professional manner.
  • Possess public communication skills that allow professional representation of Liberty University to a variety of business and community customers and associates.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.

  • Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature.
  • Demonstrate an innate knowledge of Risk Management and mitigating the risks involved in events.

Physical and Sensory Abilities
  • Frequently required to travel to local, off-campus, and on-campus locations.
  • Frequently required to sit for extended periods to perform deskwork or type on a keyboard.
  • Regularly required to hear and speak in order to effectively communicate orally.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move about the building.
  • Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop in order to conduct business.
  • Regularly lift 45 or fewer pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS Work Environment
  • The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is split between a climate-controlled office setting, Hydaway Outdoor Center and off-site locations. Both areas are well lit and the noise level is moderate. Though, this position will also be expected to spend time outside working in all seasons, on trips, and facilitating events.

Driving Requirements
  • Use of one's personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) is required for travel in the performance of the essential functions of this position. Proof of a valid Virginia driver's license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.
