This position is a .6 FTE role located at the Roosevelt Warm Springs Hospital in Warm Springs, GA.

Job Summary:

Manages the functions in Pharmacy related to RWSH medication, supply, and special ordering or purchasing, recalls, reverse distribution, inventory control, financial reporting, billing, and regulatory and/or policy record maintenance. Uses clinical knowledge to ensure the appropriate use of medications. Oversees pharmacy technicians.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Interacts well with physicians, nurses, and other RWSH staff. Knowledgeable of pharmacy rules and regulations and complies with them.Monitors labs and manages medications based on these labs.Verifies all new orders for appropriateness, interactions, dose and frequency, efficacy, and any pharmaceutical aspects of the medication process. Educates pharmacy personnel, nurses, and physicians on new medications or techniques when needed. Counsels patients on medications as required.

Accurately oversees all ordering from prime vendor wholesaler, backup vendor wholesaler, RWSH Materials Management, and GRH McKesson Supply Chain Management within contract and budgetary guidelines including emergency orders. Assists and oversees pharmacy buyer and technicians concerning ordering, borrowing, loaning, emergency orders, etc. Ensures maintenance of all records related to the ordering, borrowing, or loaning of medication. Ensures proper storage of medications.

Fully functional using pharmacy processes and procedures as well as pharmacy information systems, order entry systems, automated dispensing systems, procurement systems, clinical systems, billing systems and formulary management systems. Complies with and educates pharmacy personnel on all Pharmacy Department medication procurement and storage policies. Provides education as required to pharmacy personnel & pharmacy students. Assists in developing patient education modules.

Conducts all written and verbal communications in a professional and timely manner 100% of the time. Thoroughly reviews all hospital and departmental policies and procedures and follows accordingly. Assists Pharmacy Director with developing policies, procedures, protocols, and other tasks as required. Assists in quality improvement for the hospital and/or department as required. Attends hospital and departmental meetings as required.

Oversee/ensure aseptic & correct preparation, checking, and delivery of intravenous preparations. Verifies completion and documentation of IV hood cleaning and maintenance. Verifies all medication storage systems. Oversees/verifies the completion of pharmacy technician daily, weekly, and monthly tasks. Evaluates medication orders on admission including a medication review, lab review, fall risk assessment, and all required documentation. Leads and/or assists with antimicrobial stewardship tasks

Other duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Education:

BS in Pharmacy Degree (RPh) required

Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) preferred

Required Minimum Experience:

Minimum of 1 year experience in Pharmacy required

Minimum of 2 years experience in Hospital Pharmacy preferred

Required Certification and Licensure

Active Georgia Pharmacist License required

Basic Life Support preferred

Required Minimum Skills:

Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) required
Moderate computer skills (Microsoft Office) required
