This Fellowship requires a dedication to building a professional career in botany. This position is supported by the Eli Kirk Price Endowment.
Whomever is selected for this fellowship should expect to work 40 hours per week. This fellowship is expected to run for a duration of 12 months and the pay is $15.34/hour.
Duties & Responsibilities
Help manage (file, repair, image, annotate, etc.) botanical specimens in the nationally important herbarium collection at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University.
Participate in the ongoing botanical research activities in the Morris Arboretum Botany Department, which may include field work, laboratory work, data analysis, or online work (transcription, georeferencing) in virtual herbaria.
Learn to follow proper safety practices.
Perform additional duties as requested.

Undergraduate degree in Botany or Biology with course work in Botany.
A dedication to building a professional career in botany.
An ability to pay close attention to detail.
Self-motivation and reliability.
An ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Work Environment
Work time in this Fellowship is divided between the Plant Science Department at Morris Arboretum & Gardens (3 days/week) and the Botany Department at the Academy of Natural Sciences (2 days/week). Both departments are academic units within their organizations, thus a healthy intellectual curiosity, an engagement with the primary literature, prior experience with data analysis, and the ability to write scientific papers are all desirable characteristics/skills of the fellow in this position. The Fellow may spend time out-of-doors, in the laboratory, or in other settings, as required. This position may require travel, with some travel covering multiple days.
