Job Title:Post Doctoral Scholar

Department:Medicine | Psychiatry

The Tso Lab at The Ohio State University Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Health (https://u.osu.edu/ivytsolab/) is seeking 2 postdoctoral fellows to work on a new NIMH-funded study investigating social cognition in psychosis spectrum disorders using EEG and other ongoing research studies. The lab uses multimethods, including psychophysics, eye tracking, multimodal fMRI, EEG, neuromodulation (TMS, tACS), and computational modeling to investigate the cognitive and neural bases of social processes affected in psychosis and bipolar disorder and related psychopathology. Start date is flexible, but should be between January and August 2024. Both clinical and non-clinical PhD candidates are welcome to apply.

The postdoc fellows' primary responsibilities include: 1) setting up experimental tasks, including coding the stimulus presentation software; 2) building the databases necessary to manage data collection and data sharing; 3) setting up scripts to preprocess behavioral and EEG data; and 4) performing data preprocessing on a regular basis as data being collected; 5) performing data analyses; 6) presenting research findings at scientific conferences, writing and publishing manuscripts to disseminate the findings; and 9) assisting with grant writing to obtain research funds to continue this line of research.

Candidates with clinical backgrounds would have the option to designate 25%-50% effort to clinical assessments in the context of the R01 study and/or clinical services at the OSU Early Psychosis Intervention (EPICENTER) to accrue supervised clinical hours for licensure. Related responsibilities include: 1) administer and score the diagnostic instruments, clinical symptom ratings, and functional assessments; 2) lead and participate in outreach activities on OSU campuses and in local communities to facilitate recruitment; and 3) provide consultation to research staff and students on clinical issues encountered during study screening and evaluation sessions.

These positions are ideal for recent PhD graduates seeking a postdoctoral career of high research productivity (publications, grant writing) to facilitate transition to an independent academic research career, as well as those who are seeking clinical training to obtain licensure following postdoctoral training. Mentoring and allowances will be available to support career development activities (e.g., conference travel, workshop registration) and grant writing (e.g., NIH F32 or K award, NSF). Excellent internal grant funding opportunities and training courses/workshops (e.g., neuroimaging methods, advanced statistical methods, grant writing) are widely available for early-career researchers within the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Health and The Ohio State University. Dr. Tso is committed to (and has a track record of) mentoring postdoctoral fellows and helping them to develop a successful career in clinical psychology and affective neuroscience research.

A 2-year commitment is required, with the possibility of renewal up to 5 years depending on satisfactory performance. We especially invite and encourage applications from members of underrepresented groups, including (but not limited to) racial/ethnic minorities, first-generation college students, and students from low-SES background.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Doctorate degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, or a related STEM discipline. Candidates with a PhD in clinical psychology would have the option to designate 25%-50% effort to clinical activities to accrue supervised hours for licensure.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

Strong quantitative and programming skills (e.g., MATLAB, Python, R) are required. Experience with EEG research and psychosis assessment skills are highly desirable but not required. Candidates should have a track record of research productivity (including scientific publications, presentations, and grant applications).

Additional Information:

Location:Research Administration Building (0200)

Position Type:Term (Fixed Term)

Scheduled Hours:40

Shift:First Shift

Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check. A drug screen or physical may be required during the post offer process.
