College/Department Information

The Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University, we provide dental education to the next generation of professionals by offering hands-on education through innovative research, patient care, and service. Join other dental providers to improve the oral health of Georgia and beyond. The DCG was founded to provide the people of Georgia with quality dental care by educating students in dentistry. As a patient, you have the option to receive treatment in one of our three different practice models consisting of student clinics, resident care, or in the faculty practice. All dental treatments can be completed by the specialists in our facility. We also serve patients in more than 20 clinics across Georgia.

Job Summary

This position involves an advanced level of scientific intellectual, technical, and administrative work in support of NIH-funded research on extracellular vesicles, their therapeutic and pathogenic roles, particularly role in senescence, in the research laboratory of the department of periodontics ('Periodontal Molecular Immunology Laboratory'). Develop research study design and participate in research data collection, analysis and documentation with relevant guidelines and protocol; develop and evaluate new research techniques and procedures; write manuscripts and publish results in scientific journals. Perform a variety of complex chemical, biological, cytologic, microscopic, histologic, molecular biologic, statistical, and computational procedures.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

General Duties

Read grants supporting the laboratory, and papers produced by the work of the PI and affiliates, design experiments independently and in concert with PI, obtain and maintain research compliance, including infectious disease, biological and chemical safety, IACUC and IRB. Maintain bacterial cultures, cell cultures and animal colonies. Monitor animal welfare during animal experimentation. Isolate and characterize blood cells of human subjects and mice. Collect classify and store human and animal tissues for molecular analyses. Participate in project planning and development of research protocols, while adhering to accepted scientific principles and ethical standards and compliance with local and federal guidelines.

Experiments

Analyze results of experiments and procedures using statistical or other software. Teach and participate in complex microbiological, chemical, quantitative, cytological, flow cytometry and molecular biological analyses.

Literature & Meetings

Coordinate and participate in research of the scientific literature to design experiments and interpret results. Develop derivative applications of techniques developed by own research activities or reports in the literature. Present findings at scientific meetings locally, national and internationally.

Scientific Papers

Write papers for publications in scientific journals and review articles prepared by others.

Reports & Grants

Strategize with PI on generation of preliminary data and timeline for progress reports, grant renewal or new grants to be submitted.

Other Duties

Perform all other related duties/tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

PhD or equivalent from an accredited college or university in a relevant field of molecular, immunological, microbiological and cellular biological discipline.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

ABILITIES

In depth knowledge of the scientific method, cellular and molecular biology approaches to test hypotheses and the quantitative and statistical knowledge to analyze data. English writing skills an speaking skills.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days/M-F (work outside of the normal business hours will likely be required of an employee in an exempt level position)

Salary Minimum: $52,000.00/Annually

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
