Job Details:

Location: Tennessee Pedigree Complex, Deer Lodge, TN

Schedule: Monday through Thursday, including holidays.

Hours: 5:00am to 2:00pm

Work schedule is subject to change based upon production needs.

Priority consideration will be provided to internal applicants first. Applicants with previous agricultural or production experience will be considered preferred.

Applicants must reside in the United States to be considered for an interview.

Starting wage - $16.00/hour

Plus, additional shift differential for evenings, nights and weekends

Position Summary:

  • Engaged in the selection of birds at six weeks of age based on conformation, physical attributes and family data provided by the computer and movement of birds within the complex. Other duties may be assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • These assist in the selection of birds between the ages of four and eight weeks of age, by working with selector lead. Identify lines and bird sex to best of ability. Team is expected to handle approx. 9,000 birds per week, ranging between 3 and 12lbs. (40%)
  • These assist in set-ups for selection, i.e. place pens, catch wires, scales, and tablets in proper position. Use proper methods during bird handling, loading, and bird. (15%)
  • These maintain good condition of farm structures and equipment and recommend needed maintenance and repairs. Insures that dead birds are disposed of as instructed. Other alternative tasks may include but not limited to: coop washing, Load full/empty coops, equipment washing, assist with Lixi, sex error check, market birds, etc. (25%)
  • These assist in recording information according to instructions such as defects in brood mortality, by bird's wing band number, using the tablet system. (10%)
Other Duties, Responsibilities, and Activities:
  • These may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice, such as: Maintain and assist with housekeeping standards in the working areas; inspect birds to determine quality and progress by weighing birds weekly; sanitation of storage areas, breakroom, boot rooms, equipment, and vehicles; moving birds, grounds-keeping and organizing breeder tags; properly euthanize selected or weak/ill birds in accordance with company policy (10%)
Biosecurity/Safety Requirements:
  • The jobsite is a biosecure environment which requires showering, changing clothing and footwear before entering the facility. Appropriate clothing and footwear is provided by the Company. No jewelry may be worn on the jobsite except for medical ID jewelry and body piercings covered by appropriate clothing. Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.). Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
  • Physical: Must use safe lifting techniques. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and regularly required to stand; walk; sit; used hands and fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools may be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds at times. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk or hear; and drive a vehicle within the farm complex. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and ability to adjust focus. Employee must also be able to operate a high pressure washer.
  • Environment: Required to work on wet, slippery surfaces and also work in hot, dry, extreme dusty, wet and cold environments.
  • Personal Protective Equipment Required: Safety glasses, safety goggles, face shield, chemical gloves, waterproof apron, and rubber boots are required. Ear plugs will be used as needed. NIOSH approved N95 particulate respirators will be worn as needed.
  • Chemicals Commonly Used: Disinfectants such as Synergize, Simple Green, Animal Dye, Lysol, etc.
  • Safety: TM is expected to follow all applicable safety policies and procedures. These include but are not limited to Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, LOTO and Personal Protective Equipment. TM is expected to identify, address and mitigate safety related risks.
