Job Summary / Basic Function:

The Program Director for Childcare and Development is responsible for but not limited to the development and direction of the Childcare and Development program and the teaching and learning processes within the classroom. Specific responsibility for the operation of the program includes but is not limited to the content, quality, and the effectiveness of the curriculum within the program, recruiting, and advisement within the program and the institution. The Program Director will be responsible for teaching a full time faculty load in addition to the Program Director responsibilities and will have the opportunity to influence institutional policy and practice through regular committee assignments. This position reports to the Department Chair for the Allied Health and Science department.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement recruiting and retention efforts within the program
  • Actively recruit for the program and the institute, in addition to responding to all calls from prospective students
  • Advise students as needed
  • Ensure courses/program are compliant with any state, federal, or accreditation agency policy or reporting standards (WECM, ACGM, THECB, etc.)
  • Perform curriculum, course and learning objective assessments yearly and develop a Unit Plan of Action for improvement
  • Assist with budget preparation and monitor budget balances
  • Prepare and submit program purchase requests with the appropriate information and account numbers to the Department Chair
  • Assist with schedule building and resolve course conflicts with other programs.
  • Assist the Department Chair with the evaluation of faculty, as appropriate
  • Monitor, mentor, and evaluate program Adjunct faculty, including Dual Credit adjuncts.
  • Ensure that all final grades are submitted by the designated time
  • Prepare and submits textbook requests to the Department Chair
  • Works closely with faculty members within the program area and the Department Chair in the formulation, justification, and revision of courses and curricula
  • Schedules and leads program advisory meetings (2 times a year -1 fall/1 spring) and provides current membership lists and minutes to the Department Chair.
  • Ensures correct reporting of faculty workloads
  • Inventories, maintains, and secures all facilities and equipment charged to the program
  • Ensures that the program page on the website is up to date and posts all syllabi before the start of each semester
Teaching
  • Demonstrate skill and/or knowledge in teaching discipline.
  • Make continuous efforts to improve the quality of instruction by reviewing and utilizing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods.
  • Develop and use a syllabus for each course or laboratory within college, discipline, and departmental guidelines.
  • Plan, develop, and use a variety of teaching methods and materials that assist students in meeting course objectives, which are appropriate for students with differing educational and experiential backgrounds and learning styles.
  • Evaluate students to measure their progress toward achievement of stated course objectives and inform them of their progress in the course in a timely manner.
  • Keep accurate student records and submit related reports and forms with requested timelines.
  • Teach courses at a variety of times and locations in response to institutional needs.
  • Demonstrate competence and interest in the use of technology in the classroom and willingness to explore new instructional methodologies.

Academic Advising
  • Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.
  • Provide access to students through electronic communication, and other appropriate methods.
  • Provided advice and assistance to students regarding instructional or program-specific issues.
  • Become familiar with all student forms and complete within designated timeframes according to the academic calendar and communications with administration.
Professional Development
  • Establish annual objectives for professional growth in consultation with the department chair.
  • Keep pace with developments in the discipline.
  • Learn and apply technologies that support student learning.
  • Attain certification to teach online (SamHouston State University Online Course Design and faculty Certification Program) and complete Blackboard Ultra Skills Certification Course.
  • Participate in the evaluation process for self, department, and institute.
Institutional and Community Service
  • Participate in scheduled institutional service activities including convocation, faculty meetings, institutional conferences, professional development, and commencement exercises.
  • Actively participate in department, college, or system meetings and/or committees.
  • Be familiar with and adhere to all policies and procedures of Lamar Institute of Technology (LIT).
  • Participate in college-related activities such as student activities, selection of faculty, community education, recruitment of students, and/or special programs.
  • Participate in business and/or student activities and/or community activities that foster goodwill and promote the mission of LIT.
  • Participate in activities required to maintain program and college accreditation standards.
  • Participate in the LIT planning process by assisting in the formulation of departmental objectives and goals and in establishing budget priorities.
  • Review, evaluate, and revise program curricula and practices to assure compliance with professional standards, state-mandated guidelines, and requirements of business/industry, and higher education.
  • Assist in articulation of courses and programs with secondary and post-secondary institutions.


Physical Requirements:This position requires the ability to: remain in a stationary position for most of the time; occasionally move about inside an office and/or classroom to access documents, office equipment, etc.; constantly operate a computer or other office equipment, such as a printer or copy machine; frequently communicate verbally and in writing.   • Associate of Applied Science Degree in Childcare and Development
  • CDA III
  • 2 years of teaching experience in a childcare setting
  • Knowledge and skill in Microsoft Office
  • Self-disciplined and able to effectively manage others
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education
  • Previous experience as a supervisor, manager, or Daycare owner
Salary:

Commensurate + $4,000 stipend for Program Director duties
