Program Manager, Career Advisement

The role of the Program Manager in the School of Medicine involves guiding and supporting medical students as they navigate their educational journey and prepare for their future careers in medicine. The Program Manager supports students when navigating the residency application process. The Career Advisement Program offers one-to-one advising services, preparation of important residency application documents and guidance and resources on how to build a competitive residency application.

The Program Manager is responsible for coordinating and managing the career advisement program in the school of medicine to ensure that all medical students receive unbiased information regarding career planning, career exploration, specialty descriptions, residency match process, ERAS, personal statements, curriculum vitae development and alternative career option resources for MD's. The manager will work with the career advisors to develop, plan, implement, and evaluate the career advising and guidance program that includes career, personal, and social development. The manager will oversee scheduling for the career advising program. In addition, the coordinator will provide basic aspects of career advisement to medical students. Manage all school of medicine student interests' groups in coordination with departmental clerkship coordinators.

Daily Operations
• Participate in this symbolic event where students receive their white coats and recite the Oath of Geneva, emphasizing their commitment to compassionate patient care.
• During student orientation, provide an overview of all advisement programs.
• Introduce students to this interactive tool for career self-assessment and information about medical specialties.
• Promote student organizations and special interest groups on campus.

Individual Advisement
• MSPI Review: Schedule meetings with students to review their Medical Specialty Preference Inventory (MSPI) results.
• Faculty Advisor Identification: Identify potential faculty advisors in specialties aligned with students' interests and aptitude.
• Clinical Experiences and Mentorship: Assist students in connecting with faculty for hands-on clinical experiences and scholarly projects.

Student Interests Group and Engagement
• Meetings: Organize optional meetings where students can interact with Residency Program Directors and faculty from various specialties.
• Matching Requirements: Provide insights into residency matching requirements and career opportunities.
• Manage all student interests' groups in the School of Medicine in collaboration with the Clerkship Directors and Coordinators for each department's program.

Other Administrative Duties
• Works closely with each student to help build a residency application that aligns with their future career goals.
• provides information that can be helpful in determining the specialties that best suit a student's academic interest and performance and advises on interview skills, the residency application process, and successful approaches that will represent each student best.
• Assists students and provide training with ERAS
• Assists medical students with development of Personal Statements
• Assists medical students with Curriculum Vitae
• Alternative Career Option Resources for MD's
• Assigning students to specialty faculty for mentoring
• Manage online scheduling
• Develop and oversee the career advisement website in coordination with the marketing team for the school of medicine
• Provide medical students with guidance and assistant with MATCH
• Other duties as assigned

Required Education and Experience

• Bachelor of Science degree in Education or related field required
• Master's degree in education or related field preferred.
• Five years' experience working with medical students and/or medical resident education at an LCME-accredited US medical school required.
• Experience with medical student education required.
• Experience with project management and program coordination required.
