Department Summary:

THE BIODISCOVERY INSTITUTE was established in 2016 as an Institute of Research Excellence at the University of North Texas under the Division of Research and Innovation. The BioDiscovery Institute delivers fundamental research solutions to underpin the utilization of living systems for the production of polymers, oils and additives, chemical feedstocks, composite materials, proteins and other macromolecules, bioactive molecules, and even bio-based fuels. Researchers in the institute operate through pipelines that link sustainable production platforms, metabolic engineering, and the development of new products and technologies. The institute touts a multidisciplinary team of scientists committed to collaborating on large research projects with an emphasis on solutions to societal needs

Position Overview:

The BDI Proposal Manager will execute the day-to day planning and management of research grants and contract proposal development, processing, and scheduling, in order to ensure that the BioDiscovery Institute submits compelling, compliant, on-time proposals in response to solicitations of varying size and complexity, ranging from short-term task orders to large, multi-miliion dollar research projects. Oversees the full life-cycle of proposal development, including planning, scheduling, and managing competitive proposals with end-to-end ownership and command of proposal development and related support processes, while serving as a writer, editor, and/or reviewer as required. Successful performance in this role will result in the acquisition of large externally funded projects and programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in related field and two years of progressively responsible professional-level related experience in proposal submission activities in pursuit of private, local, state, or federal grants or contracts, which includes demonstrated crafting of proposals in response to competitive solicitations that were awarded funding from federal government agencies; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* Demonstrated ability to use varying styles, approaches, skills, and techniques to communicate with various constituents (e.g., faculty, staff, community partners) with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
* Strong proposal writing experience; excellent verbal and written communication skills writing original content and editing.
* Demonstrated ability to identify key components of an RFP and use them to develop the tools needed to ensure compliance for each proposal effort.
* Demonstrated ability to maintain clear, consistent, timely, and effective communication with proposal stakeholders.
* Proven track record in management of small to large, complex proposal efforts.

Preferred Qualifications:

A degree or background in a science discipline. Previous experience coordinating multi-authors grants in a university setting.

Work Schedule:

Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm and available on some weekends. Hybrid and on campus work schedule may be an option.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of UNT policies and procedures as well as sponsor, state, and federal regulations governing submissions of proposals for external funding. Maintain NORDP membership and professional development for Research Development Professionals to engage in best practices, and offer the most effective proposal development services to faculty.


o:

Assist PIs in grant management and timely submission, including scheduling kickoff and planning meetings, providing checklists, serve as coordinator between team members, point person for internal and external portals. Serve as liaison to GCA as required

o:

Assist PIs in quality proposal submissions. Connect faculty to on-campus resources and data, liaise between offices on campus, create and provide relevant templates. Coordinate and provide resources to support visual graphics and illustrations on proposals

o:

Develop and maintain metrics and strategies on proposals for the assigned areas. Prospecting funding opportunities, understanding and communicating the funding landscape, and partner with University leadership to increase & prioritize specific external funding

o:

Connect faculty to on-campus resources and data, including education, training, workshops, and champion new faculty investigators, Liaise between offices on campus, create repository of resources for assigned area.
