PVC Research & Innovation Intern

The Thermoplastics Research & Development group is looking for a full-time intern for the 2023 summer to work at our Research & Innovation Center in Carlisle, PA. The Research & Innovation intern would receive high quality training and supervision from our experienced staff to solve product related problems through both fundamental and applied research. In order to expand the learning opportunities for our interns, projects include different aspects of the product line, from product research to process research to application development. The area of focus is our PVC (Poly Vinyl Chloride) Membrane product line, and the purpose of this position is to help support one or two projects in R&D.

Duties and Responsibilities:

* Conducting literature search on the flexible PVC formulation and processing
* Working with a group of scientists to identify the necessary testing for the R&D projects
* Preparing samples for physical and analytical testing, including but not limited to FTIR, TGA, and GPC
* Performing physical and mechanical property testing on the lab samples
* Collecting and interpreting the test results to drive conclusion for the projects
* Presenting the final data and conclusion to the team

Qualification:

* Currently enrolled in a Bachelors, Master's or PHD degree in the field of Materials Science, Polymer Science and Engineering or Chemistry
* A minimum GPA of 3.00 (on a scale of 4.00) is required
* Ability to work Mid-May to Mid-August full time onsite in Carlisle, PA
* Reliable attendance is an expectation of all employees at CCM. For all our internship positions, reliable transportation is required.
* Good understanding of structure-property relationship of thermoplastic polymers
* Comfortable with conducting literature and patent search
* Self-starter with a positive attitude
* Strong written and oral communication skills
