SUMMARY: The Laboratory Supervisor position is responsible for overseeing the operations of the laboratory in Tecumseh and Waverly, ensuring ISO-17025 standards are followed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES:

  • Supervise laboratory (2) operations to maintain quality and efficiency as they apply to the laboratories area, including quality control records, forms, files etc.
  • Perform and interpret test results, notifying the Sr. Manager FSQA of deviations
  • Supervise training of new and current laboratory personnel in laboratory procedures
  • Management of direct reports including hiring, training, and performance evaluations
  • Reviews, rewrites and keeps current all laboratory policies and procedures in accordance with regulations to conform with quality assurance requirements
  • Report equipment failures
  • Supervise quality control procedures and documentation to support compliance with ISO 17025 guidelines
  • Initiate laboratory non- compliance investigation in order to establish corrective action
  • Assist in inventory maintenance and budget
  • Perform internal audits of laboratory processes as directed
  • Perform workbench as needed to ensure samples are handled in a timely manner
  • Will be required to independently travel to Tecumseh plant 2-3 day
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Ability to operate equipment and handle lab materials safely and effectively, adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices and laboratory practices.
  • Knowledge of technical information behind each test performed

    Trouble shooting skills essential
  • Must be able to work independently and make decisions
  • Willingness to function and work as a team
  • Willingness to travel freely between both plants

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE:
  • In the absence of the Laboratory Supervisor, the FSQA Manager or Sr Manager FSQA will take on all quality and food safety related duties conducted by the Laboratory Supervisor

REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Food Science or related field

Experience: 2+ years leadership or supervisory experience required. Testing and laboratory experience in food industry preferred

Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft office. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Physical Requirements / Environment: Stand/Walk: Frequent, Sit: Occasional, Lift/Carry: Occasional (1- 50 lbs.)

Other Physical Requirements: Bend/stoop, squat, climb (up to 3 ft), reach above shoulder (up to 5 ft.), push/pull: Occasional; Grasp, push: Occasional

Environment: Marked changes in temperature and humidity, exposure outside condition: occasional, some office work

Travel: Between Waverly and Tecumseh
