Job Title:Research PharmacistDepartment:James | Pharmacy AdministrationJob DescriptionSCOPE OF POSITION In cooperation with other pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, coordinates the receipt, distribution and accountability of medications for investigational drug studies in accordance with applicable legal, professional, institutional and sponsor requirements.POSITION SUMMARYThis position functions to coordinate all aspects of the Investigational Drug Service in providing pharmaceutical services related to investigational drug studies. These services include drug ordering, receipt, labeling, storage, distribution, inventory control and record keeping activities. Assists with sponsor site visits and associated documentation. Also responsible for budgetary, personnel and interdepartmental issues of the Investigational Drug Service.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Supervises Investigational Drug Service pharmacy technical staff and assists in performing investigational drug ordering, receipt, and distribution to appropriate locations in accordance with applicable Ohio and federal laws. Labels investigational drugs separately by study supply. Stores investigational drugs under the appropriate temperature/storage conditions and maintains the cleanliness and neatness of the area. Performs routine physical inventories of investigational drugs and removes outdated/discontinued drugs from inventory. Transfers, returns, or destroys stock according to investigator, sponsor, and legal requirements. Repackages study medications and assists in investigational drug dispensing activities. Maintains accurate drug accountability and other required records, with resolution of errors or discrepancies. Performs study-related data collection and reporting, including workload statistics and billing. Interacts with investigational drug study sponsors, and site visitors, physicians, nurses, research staff, and other allied health professionals. Assists with the orientation and training of volunteers, pharmacy technicians, pharmacists, undergraduate and graduate students and other hospital staff. Participates on applicable committees. Attends department sponsored continuing education programs. Satisfies life-safety training and education requirements.Minimum Education RequiredBachelor's Level DegreeAdditional Education DesiredMaster's DegreeRequired QualificationsRegistered pharmacist in the State of Ohio; advanced degree (Pharm.D./MS) and/or equivalent experience.
