CORE JOB SUMMARY

Pharmacy Technicians assist pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining the drug inventory, and maintaining patient records. Pharmacy technicians work only under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. They do not perform duties that can legally be performed only by a registered pharmacist.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Managing the clinical investigational drug (CID) inventory, including independently ordering CID within scope of authority, receiving, organizing, and monitoring the use of CID.
2. Providing technical assistance with clinical trial protocol and utilizes knowledge of equipment and other technical skills.
3. Managing and triaging pharmacy phone calls with appropriate telephone etiquette.
4. Maintaining and recording both physical and electronic information and assists in the record keeping related to clinical trials required by the study protocols.
5. Prepares or compounds extemporaneous products using appropriate technique under supervision of pharmacist.
6. Prepacking of medication into appropriate single unit of issue as needed, following proper guidelines.
7. Preparation of sterile intravenous chemotherapy or biohazardous products in accordance with established procedures and following aseptic techniques with particular emphasis on the safe handling of injectable cytotoxic drugs and biohazardous agents.
8. Participates in monthly audits of CID inventory
9. Conducts daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning of pharmacy sterile compounding suites in accordance with USP Chapter 797, USP Chapter 800, Florida Board of Pharmacy rules, and all applicable UMHC policies.
10. Maintains the clinical investigational drug work area clean, organized, and presentable at all times.
11. Organizes a study binder for each trial with sections for all required documentation.
12. Assists pharmacist in training of pharmacy staff and ensuring the ongoing skills development of technical staff.
13. Assisting and performing quality improvement and quality assurance implementation as they relate to Investigational Drug Services by performing regular internal audits and drug accountability logs.
14. Maintaining proper functioning of equipment used by Investigational Drug Services.
15. Working in compliance of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations, reporting hazards, deficiencies, and contraventions of the Act in a timely manner.
16. Oversees and instructs pharmacy learners (pharmacy students and residents) as it relates to clinical research pharmaceutical services.
17. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
