The lab of Dr. Razieh Kebriaei (P3 Research Laboratory) is seeking a motivated, hard-working recent graduate with research lab experience for a research technician position. The applicant will perform research experiments designed to understand the pathogenesis of the bacterium such as Staphylococcus aureus that causes disease bacteremia, infective endocarditis and bone and joint infections in accordance with protocols approved by the principal investigator. Areas of work will include bacteria-bacteriophage interactions that contribute to disease severity, biofilm studies, and the study of pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics of disease.

Experiments involve the use of laboratory pathogens (Biosafety level (BSL)-2 laboratory), and required trainings are offered through BuckeyeLearn before joining the lab. Excellent record keeping , preparation of laboratory reports, analyzing data, preparation of publications are in the list of job responsibilities.

The applicant will work under the supervision of the principal investigator in collaboration with one or two other lab members, with the goal of becoming independent in laboratory skills and experimental performance. This position may require occasional evening and/or weekend duties. The ideal candidate is a person with a firm background in phage biology who is able to lead an independent research project and move forward with at least one publication. Great team work skills, maintenance of supply inventory, teaching and helping undergraduate students, developing research protocols along with performing miscellaneous related duties are in the list of required responsibilities. Using laboratory techniques, we are able to screen for optimal treatments of antibacterial agents. This is necessary for determining the best treatments for patients with high bacterial burden and immunocompromised patients. There are no animal/human subjects involved in this research, but the results of this research can be translated to bedside immediately and save patient lives. Preference will be towards applicants who have previous research background.

Required qualifications: Applicant must have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. 2-3 years of relevant laboratory experience is required. Experience with Excel and PowerPoint desired. Applicants with ability to critically evaluate literature and previous experience in scientific writing are highly preferred.

Candidates with previous skills in bacteriophage propagation/assays are preferred.
