Under the direction of the Disputes Technology & Services (DTS) practice group leader and DTS Paralegal Manager, the Senior Arbitration Paralegal is a highly skilled, objective-oriented individual who utilizes a combination of practical experience and cutting-edge technology in a collaborative environment to provide Firm clients and attorneys with creative and cost-efficient solutions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The paralegal will be part of the International Disputes practice group supporting lawyers in the group in Washington DC and elsewhere.
  • Work with the team to meet deadline-driven projects for international arbitration disputes (commercial and investor-state).
  • Manage and maintain a current and complete client/matter file, including maintenance of case files, databases, and data entry.
  • Prepare materials for and provide support during case filings and hearings, including potentially assisting with research.
  • Prepare cover letters, exhibit appendices and indices, and correspondence.
  • E-file documents with various arbitration agencies and tribunals.
  • Coordinate and perform factual and legal cite checking and proof-reading of briefs and other supporting documents.
  • Maintain shared servers and repositories, including but not limited to share files and FTP sites, and upload documents as necessary.
  • Coordinate with external vendors to source competitive bids and negotiate contracts.

Knowledge & Skills:
  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in a large law firm environment, preferably within an international arbitration practice.
  • In-depth understanding of the arbitration life cycle.
  • Proficient with procedural rules applicable to international arbitration proceedings.
  • Experience using Microsoft productivity tools (Intermediate/Advanced): Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word. Proficient with software including but not limited to document management software such as iManage, Exhibit Manager, Opus 2, or similar case management tools, and document review tools such as Relativity.
  • Ability to proofread materials for contextual, grammatical, typographical, or spelling errors.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment such as computer, photocopiers, scanners, and fax.

  • Lawyers, paralegals, and other legal support staff

  • Client representatives
  • eDiscovery and Litigation Technology staff
  • Information Technology staff

  • Vendor representatives
Physical Demands:
  • Must be able to lift boxes of files weighing approximately 15 pounds.
  • Must be able to routinely lift and carry file folders weighing up to 5-10 pounds.
  • Must be able to spend long periods of time working at computer workstation.
  • Must be able to lift, squat, kneel and bend.
Work Condition and Environment:
  • This role may be hybrid and will require a minimum of three days per week (or at least 60%) present in the office, and up to two days per week (40%) may be performed remotely.
  • Work is normally performed in an office work environment.
  • Must be available to work overtime, including weekend hours, when necessary to meet established deadlines or stay current with occasional peaks in workload. Must be willing to change regular work schedule to meet the needs of the Firm.
  • Must be able to perform essential duties of the position with time constraints and frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to work well in high pressure environments.
