Caterpillar, the largest Construction Equipment manufacturer in the World, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Hydraulics System Engineer (internally known as Senior Design Engineer) to be part of our engineering team in Peoria, IL.

The role will direct and participate in the design and development of new product concepts and complex engineering projects for release to production in a manner to ensure products provide superior performance, durability, quality, and serviceability. Position will work both as an individual contributor and as part of a project team on Caterpillar Earthmoving equipment for Motor Graders products.

What You Will Do:

  • To direct and participate in the concept, design and development of hydraulic systems and ensuring products provide superior performance, durability, quality, and serviceability while meeting cost and delivery targets.
  • Lead development activities with internal and external suppliers of mechanical and electro-hydraulic components through NPI/CPI development.
  • Use your technical expertise, product knowledge and cutting-edge technologies to extract data from our products and transform it into valuable insights to create integrated solutions that help customers solve their greatest challenges.

    • You will collaborate with the global hydraulic engineering organization in United States, Europe, India, and China.
    • Travel to foreign and domestic locations, if required, to support component and system development activities
What You Have (Basic Qualifications):

Degree requirement: Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university.

Analytical Thinking: Ability to identify critical gaps, next actions, and act to resolve issues with minimal oversight. An emphasis on initiative and strong technical insight.

Technical Excellence: Candidate must have strong analytical skills. Incumbent will develop and provide solutions for significant technical issues related to quality, velocity, and cost objectives.

Product Design and Development: Extensive knowledge of machine or system design, ability to understand the design process and standards.

Examples May Include:
  • Evaluate, troubleshoot, define, and resolve issues during machine development and field follow.
  • Coordinate design validation and prototype machine iron.
  • Collaborate with expert operators and test engineers to provide detail feedback on machine performance that is correlated with measured data.
  • Create and develop new intellectual property and patents.

  • Effective Communication: Ability to communicate, collaborate, and build trust across a wide and diverse range of people - customers, internal partners, suppliers, engineers, and leadership team .
  • Managing Multiple Priorities: Ability to learn and leverage Continues Process Improvement (CPI) strategies across the enterprise. Candidate will have the ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities.
