Role:

The Fixed Asset Accountant position is within the Finance and Corporate Accounting department and will play a critical role within our growing organization. The Fixed Asset Accountant will have several job responsibilities, including maintaining the Company's Fixed Asset system, preparing and completing month-end journal entries and various account reconciliations, and performing account analyses. The Fixed Asset Accountant will work closely with the Sr. Manager of Reporting & Consolidation, along with various individuals across the organization including partners within FP&A, Operations, IT, and other departments.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Review and process capital project requests
  • Maintain Fixed Asset Ledger in SAP by ensuring the fixed asset transactions (depreciation, capitalization, dispositions, and transfers) are properly recorded in accordance with company polices and all applicable balances are properly stated
  • Perform monthly close procedures, including retirement and disposal of assets, run depreciation module, record intercompany sales of fixed assets, record capitalization accruals, perform account reconciliation of fixed assets and prepare quarterly and annual supporting schedules as required for financial reporting department and internal and external auditors
  • Perform detailed variance analysis for fixed asset and depreciation accounts to understand changes and ensure accuracy
  • Maintain all supporting schedules, including fixed asset roll forwards, fixed asset additions and disposals, depreciation expense, construction in progress, capex forecasting and reconciliation with general ledger
  • Contribute recommendations and participate in improving the company's accounting processes; assist in the improvement of internal control activities and accounting policies and procedures
  • Prepare and/or review journal entries in accordance with company policy
  • Prepare and/or review account reconciliations for balance sheet accounts ensuring financial records are maintained in compliance with company policy
  • Review, investigate, and resolve accounting discrepancies and reconciling items
  • Serve as liaison between department managers and the Finance department regarding current and future capital and maintenance projects and expenditures
  • Perform periodic analysis to determine assets to be retired
  • Establish and maintain internal controls and assist in the documentation and evaluation of financial and business processes in support of the Company's SOX requirements
  • Create ad-hoc reports and analysis as required

  • Strong accounting knowledge - strong knowledge of US GAAP and the application of related requirements and the ability to clearly and effectively communicate accounting matters to non-financial people at all levels
  • Strong analytical skills - a professional who is able to apply strong analytical skills to improve various aspects of our corporate accounting and reporting processes
  • Proactive approach - someone who addresses each task with a sense of urgency and is capable of generating a high volume of quality work products in a timely manner
  • Focus on continuous improvement - an energetic individual who is not satisfied with the status quo and is always focused on the improvement of business processes, reporting, and controls within the finance and accounting team and across the organization

  • Internal control focus - someone with knowledge of internal controls including hands-on experience with SOX program execution
  • Good systems knowledge - experience and understanding of SAP or similar enterprise systems
  • High sense of accountability and integrity -- someone who ensures adherence to all company policies and procedures and understands and demonstrates Ferrara's core values


Education and Experience:

  • 0-2 years of relevant experience in accounting and/or finance
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or other related business major is required, and CPA or other certification is preferred
  • Ability to work overtime and effectively under tight time constraints as required at peak reporting periods
  • Strong Computer and MS Office skills including advanced Excel (e.g. pivot tables), PowerPoint, Word
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize accordingly
