Job Description

Summary

The Staff Engineer serves as a technical expert and primary technical contact domestically in the Electrical and Engineering (Connectivity) field. Additionally, the incumbent is responsible for project reviews and project evaluations on Connectivity products.

Job Functions

  • Maintain (and develop where needed) "expertise" in domestic and global Connectivity standards and certification requirements; Serve as a technical contact domestically in the Connectivity product field.
  • Work closely with the department team to ensure the following: compliance to all relevant quality system policies and procedures, and prompt response to client inquiries regarding order status, department work load, capabilities, and report content for jobs initiated by staff or team.
  • Assist higher-level management in safety initiatives and enforcement, calibration program, internal quality audits, preventative maintenance, KPI metrics, purchasing and any other projects as needed by the operations
  • Coordinate development and implementation of internal audit and management review procedures and monitor compliance with internal company QA, trade or industry association or accreditation requirements
  • Coordinate and confer with staff to resolve operating problems and deliverables.
  • Conduct construction reviews and perform tests of Connectivity products for product certification to applicable US and International safety standards for ordinary and hazardous locations ( i.e., ANSI, CSA, UL, IEC, IES).
  • Perform on- and off-site design reviews of Connectivity products to applicable US and International safety standards ( i.e., ANSI, CSA, UL, IEC, IES)
  • Identify, set up and operate standard and advanced test instruments and equipment required for testing; analyze test data and generate test data sheets
  • Review other engineer's projects, for qualified categories; Create client deliverables in the form of test reports, letter reports, and certification reports
  • Work in the field at client facilities as required, which includes field labeling, design reviews, and off-site certification work.
  • Communicate project status and test results to client, sales personnel, and management throughout projects. Provide on-going support to clients as needed
  • Develop, write, review, and validate test methods, laboratory SOPs, and other department-level operating, safety, and quality documents.
  • Assist lab operations for enhancing accreditation scope (such as ISO 17025, Guide 65)
  • Investigation on, response to, and follow-up of client inquiries and complaints. This includes responding to client requests for quotation of services (accurately identifying length of project, type and number of samples necessary, and standards that will be used)
  • Internal and external Technical support to marketing, customer services and sales. Attend customer meetings and create SOPs for specific testing needs.
  • Coordinate, manage, and conduct multiple projects within tight deadlines.
  • Train and mentor junior engineers and technicians when required; develop training courses for junior engineers and technicians
  • Develop new testing capabilities as required by approved business plans including research, specifying test equipment, and training of operations and sales
  • Represent Company at Industry Association and Trade shows and promote Services for Connectivity.
  • Host Webinars, conferences
  • Drive and Direct new Company initiatives for new services
  • Other projects and tasks assigned by company and supervisors.

Qualifications

Qualifications

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's in Engineering 7+ years of experience OR a combination of equivalent relevant engineering testing experience and education (Required)
  • Master's Degree in Engineering (Preferred)
Licenses and Certifications
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (Preferred)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Language Skills: English - Advanced level (Required)
  • Mathematical Skills: Advanced level (Required)
  • Reasoning Skills/Abilities: Advanced level (Required)
  • Prior experience with at least UL 1598, UL 2108, UL 1993, UL 1838, UL 8750, UL 48, UL 844, UL 153, UL 60950-1, UL 1310, and UL 1012 (Required)
  • Prior experience with at least CSA C22.2 No. 250.0, CSA C22.2 No. 9.0, CSA C22.2 No. 1993, CSA C22.2 No. 250.7, CSA C22.2 No. 207, CSA C22.2 No. 137, CSA C22.2 No. 12, CSA C22.2 No. 60950-1, CSA C22.2 No. 223, and CSA C22.2 No. 107.2 (Required)
  • Membership and involvement with Standards Technical Panel or Committee writing standards in organizations such UL, CSA, IEC, IES. (Preferred)
  • Familiarity with Quality Management System, ISO 17025, government, industry and other regulations, standards, and methodologies (Required)
Computer Skills
  • • Windows-based computer programs including MS Word, Excel, and Access. Required ()
