Job Summary

Department Specific Responsibilities

  • Serves all student populations and assigned caseload, while specializing on supporting Latine students.
  • Maintain information on campus programs and initiatives to assist students, faculty and academic advisors with questions about IU South Bend.
  • Provides success coaching for a caseload of approximately 300 students. Maintains information about majors and minors, certificate programs, general education, programs within academic affairs, campus, and system-wide, student support services both on and off campus to help students. Helps with enrollment and retention initiatives.
  • Provides coaching, proactive, and developmental guidance to assist students with their transition to college, and identifying interests and abilities. This work entails, but is not limited to, developing a coherent program that includes best practices, such as learning communities, cohort-based class scheduling, connections to campus tutoring, career services, and engagement in other HIPs.
  • Regularly meets with students during semester to develop medium and long-rang academic goals, and to review grades and the student engagement reports. Assists student in developing strategies to promote academic persistence. Assists students to develop career goals.
  • Tracks and supports student progress from first time enrollment through graduation. Maintains records on student progress, persistence, retention, and graduation.
  • Effectively use university advising and retention tools and systems including notes on AdRx, appointments on Scheduler, creates and administers surveys, and student engagement campaigns.
  • Contributes to designing and implementing programs to foster student success and retention. Works with appropriate student clubs.
  • Works with our high school partners to develop more deliberate, coordinated high school tours, and summer and other programs that focus on engaging Latine students and keeping them on track to enter IU South Bend as freshmen.
  • Manages, seeks, and updates community resources partners for access that address student vulnerabilities. Works with campus and community partners for leads. Connects and engages community services for emergency resources for students.
  • Frequently interfaces directly with students and collaborates with staff in own department, faculty, and staff across campus, and community partners on shared student support goals.
  • Frequently interacts with students, families, community partners, and others in Spanish.
  • Assists Director and/or campus/community partners to prepare reports for stakeholders. Collects and maintains caseload data.
  • Communicates outcomes at staff meetings and monthly communications to community partners.
  • Other duties as assigned.
General Responsibilities
  • Develops and distributes reports of enrollment, year-over-year retention, progress toward degree completion, and graduation for distribution to leaders in enrollment management and across various student services functions. Maintains historical reports for trend analysis and benchmarking.
  • Serves on committees and works collaboratively with other student services staff to maintain an understanding of the full student life-cycle and typical barriers to retention, degree completion, and graduation.
  • Develops and implements retention programs, initiatives, and targeted communications to improve student enrollment and retention outcomes.
  • Performs targeted outreach and interacts directly with at-risk students, connecting them with resources to navigate barriers to completion.
  • Evaluates enrollment data to determine the effectiveness of current enrollment processes; liaises with and serves as a resource for academic departments, offices, programs, and schools across campus to develop and realize enrollment goals.
  • Performs industry research and may make recommendations for process improvements in line with industry best practices.

EDUCATION

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in business, public policy, or related field
Preferred
  • Master's degree in higher education student affairs or related field
WORK EXPERIENCE

Required
  • 2 years in enrollment management, admissions, student services, higher education, or related field

  • Understands FERPA and contributes to best practices.
  • Demonstrates ability to maintain confidential information
  • Ability to simultaneously handle multiple priorities
  • Demonstrates excellent judgment and decision making skills
  • Knowledge of student development, counseling, or career development theories and practices
  • Demonstrates cultural competency
  • Ability to build strong partnerships with students, families, faculty, and other university offices

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
