Job Description

Supervise salaried and hourly employees to recondition and refurbish car parts and perform car body repairs. Establish a motivated and well-trained work force through personal contact and through first-line supervisors reporting directly to the General Supervisor. Operate the production department in a cost effective, safe manner within the quality standards established by AAR, FRA, and TTX requirements on a daily basis. Plan new car programs and organize all work to be performed productively. Establish a safe work environment for all employees and be proactive to always improve upon processes and/or the facility. The General Supervisor must be knowledgeable in car and component repairs and have a good, solid mechanical background. Must also be competent in reading blueprints and have good organizational skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Establish and implement methods and best practices related to the systems and process that support customer demand and master schedule.
• Prepares customer delivery reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends and uses information to proactively communicate and eliminate potential late deliveries.
• Develop and execute a manufacturing strategy to meet the company's business growth
• Establish, implement, and manage system to evaluate, monitor and report a production scorecard performance.
• Coordinate and work with quality, engineering, freight car repair operations to ensure 100% on-time delivery by establishing and monitoring schedule to proactively identify and address any issues.
• Participates as a member of the operations team in making cross-functional operational decisions.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Process Engineering and Quality to achieve cost reduction targets.
• Maintains a safe and healthy work environment by implementing, maintaining and aligning company policies that adhere to local, state and federal environmental, health and safety regulations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
• Maintain and provide current understanding of industry best practices and technology trends.
• Identify tools, processes and metrics to optimize manufacturing goals.
• Leads by example and motivates people so as to create a challenging, empowering, and collaborative working environment.
• Good technical writing, documentation, and record keeping skills.
• Good analytical problem solving ability.
• Ability to contribute in a cross functional collaborative environment.
• Ability to leverage metrics and other tools to drive inventory performance.

REQUIREMENTS:
• BS degree in business, engineering or other related discipline. Masters in related field a plus.
• At least 5-10 years progressive experience in management of workforce within a manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge/experience in Lean Manufacturing is a plus.
• Working knowledge and understanding of ERP/MRP systems and their use in a manufacturing environment (SAP preferred).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
• Knowledge and understanding of Welding. A Welding certification is a plus.
• Ability to demonstrate solid written and oral communication skills.
• Strong Leadership skills are a must.

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to communicate (talk, hear), remain stationary within work area (sit), and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee occasionally stands, climbs, balances, stoops, kneels, crouches, crawls, reaches with hands and arms, and moves about (walk). The employee must frequently transport up to 10 pounds and occasionally transport up to 25 pounds. Correctable vision required for close, distance, depth perception vision capabilities and the ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus). General office environment, moderate noise level. Travel may be required. Work environment is occasionally near moving mechanical parts and may involve exposure to outdoor weather conditions

SALARY RANGE:

$82,000 - $106,000 per year.
