The University of Miami/UHealth has an exciting opportunity for an Executive Director of Finance Transformation.

SUMMARY

Reporting to the AVP of Financial Process Transformation and serving as a member of the FP&A team for an academic health system, the Executive Director of Finance Transformation serves to not only provide executive-level vision but also hands-on leadership in the prioritization, definition, and execution of financial processes and systems for the purpose of supporting the system's transformation of management finance as well as its continued development and evolution. The Executive Director is expected to exhibit strong interpersonal and communication skills to facilitate in collaboration when working with other UHealth Finance units, IT, HR, and the Department and Center/Institute operations. The Executive Director will be responsible for project implementation requiring depth in analytical/logical skills and an appreciation of the past but coupled with flexibility and curiosity of the mind to form innovative solutions. The Executive Director is also expected at times to present and/or hold meetings with the operating units as well as attend and represent AVP of Financial Process Transformation, as necessary.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Identify and prioritize frameworks for management financial process transformation programs. Provide leadership in project management of the processes, systems, and data needed to execute finance transformation programs.
  • Communicate and present action plans and proposals to leaders and operational units.
  • Serve as resource to other through comprehension and documentation of financial processes, data flow, and landscape of the health system to appropriately identify and advance "cases for change." Strengthen the culture of continuous improvement through team building, development of staff, and provision and modeling of leadership behavior in the department.
  • Collaborate with other areas/units e.g. finance, technology, and business leaders to define and execute prioritized finance transformation programs.
  • Maintain current knowledge of new trends and innovations in the field, including knowledge of finance and healthcare specific developments that may affect value-added services.
  • Ensure internal control oversight and compliance with laws and regulations, safeguarding of assets, compliance with University policies and procedures, reliability of internal and external reporting, and efficiency and effectiveness of operations.
  • Creates an effective control environment, conducts risk assessment, implements, and monitors controls.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor's degree in relevant field required, Master's degree in accounting/finance and/or MBA preferred

Experience:

Minimum 10 years of equivalent experience

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
  • Commitment to high quality in fast-paced environments; ability to adhere to tight deadlines and balance competing priorities.
  • Flexible, curious, and open-minded approach.
  • Experience presenting complex information to senior finance and operational leaders.
  • Experience with Cloud-Based Planning systems (e.g. Strata).
  • Experience/background in information systems.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles.
  • Knowledge of healthcare industry and/or academic medical center
  • Critical thinking, attention to detail, communications, business writing, creative problem-solving, project management and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.
  • Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.
  • Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.
  • Ability to use judgement and discretion appropriately.
