About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.

This position is a key member of the Talent Management team and is accountable for developing, facilitating, leading and consulting on key talent and HR processes that will ensure a strong pipeline of talent and process accountability critical to a highly effective organization. This person will serve as an advisor, thought-leader and partner to the CHRO; VP, Talent Management; HR Business Partners and senior leadership on talent reviews, succession planning, leadership assessment, high-potential development and leadership development, performance management and other key HR processes and initiatives as needed. In collaboration with the VP, Talent Management and CHRO, this person will influence and own the strategy around our C-suite successor talent review and development process, will facilitate discussions with Executive Council and prepare materials for the Board of Directors.

The position reports to the VP, Talent Management and is considered a mobile employee.

  • This is a part-time position
Responsibilities include:
  • Understanding the business strategy and operating environment and, as a subject-matter expert, leading the development of the talent strategy related to talent reviews, succession planning and high potential leadership development to support the key objectives of FirstEnergy.
  • Creating and owning process and tools to drive and support the talent review, succession planning and high potential leadership development processes across the organization
  • Facilitates executive succession planning process including planning, preparation and creation of all materials for Board talent review
  • Developing, monitoring and reporting on analytics and talent management metrics to evaluate succession management, development strategy effectiveness and other outcomes across the organization
  • Collaborating with HR Business Partners; Manager, Learning & Development; Manager, Talent Acquisition, the DEI and HR Technology and Analytics teams on talent management processes and execution of the talent review, succession planning and high potential development processes within the business
  • Analyzing leadership development needs, translating development needs into practical learning solutions and establishing learning objectives that support business priorities and align with the over-arching corporate strategy
  • Identifying, evaluating and executing assessment tools and external programs and managing initiatives to develop leadership and high potential employees
  • Supporting Corporate Learning & Development with program design and facilitation support as needed
  • Researching and remaining up to date on trends and best practices on talent management
  • Consulting with the HRBPs and leadership to facilitate cross-functional engagement and collaboration on talent sharing and development needed for success
  • Supporting the creation of development plans to help get people ready to take on broader leadership roles
  • Creating transparency around opportunities for career advancement, lateral as well as upward development path, through candid career conversations
  • Working cross-functionally with the DEI team to ensure our talent processes reflect FE's commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Partnering with HR Technology and Analytics team to ensure technology supports effective process execution and provides analytics that enhance our talent processes and ability to make talent-related decisions
  • Providing input, supporting or leading projects, initiatives or work that supports broader FE organizational, talent and HR strategy, processes or culture as needed
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Organization Development, HR, or a minimum 10 years related professional work experience required
  • Demonstrated ability to strategically plan and execute large-scale initiatives across an organization
  • Experience working with executive leadership on enterprise talent processes and initiatives
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills
  • Familiarity with talent management best practices including internal talent identification and mobility, succession planning and development
  • Advanced consultative skills and ability to work with a range of HRBPs, cross-functionally within HR and with leaders across the business to address talent and HR needs and ensure organizational effectiveness
  • Ability to work and interact with all levels of employees and to influence across the organization
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong leadership and team building skills, balanced with holding team accountable
  • Ability to foster innovative change and process improvement

  • Leadership and managerial experience
